Our Precinct is on the ancestral land of the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation.
We acknowledge the many different traditional countries and language groups of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Peoples that work and visit us here.
We also acknowledge that our partnerships and engagements happen across many different lands.
From pioneering treatments to groundbreaking discoveries, we have been at the forefront of medical excellence for over 160 years, shaping the future of healthcare in Australia.
Our collaboration between world-class clinical care, cutting-edge research, and education accelerates scientific discoveries into life-changing patient care.
The aim of the Precinct Partners is to collaborate for greater health innovation impact. We believe there are three ways to achieve this:
Our Precinct is an amazing partnership with a long history and very bright future. The Cornerstone Partners are St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney, the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, St Vincent’s Private Hospital Sydney, and St Vincent’s Clinic. We also have important university partners including UNSW Sydney, Notre Dame and ACU, and other collaborative partners such as the Nursing Research Institute and the Kirby Institute.
Delivering medical research and healthcare is increasingly complex and challenging. However, together we are much more than the sum of our parts, and our vision as a Precinct is to transform healthcare through research, clinical and educational collaborations – inspired by the spirit of deep compassion and equity on which we were founded.
We have a long and collective history, starting when the first St Vincent’s Hospital was established in 1857, the Garvan growing from this and launching in 1963, the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute launching in 1994, as well as numerous other partnerships that have been established over time. Our Partners also have broader national footprints and international collaborations.
Collectively we have led in many different areas, including in treatments for drug and alcohol dependence, diabetes, compassionate health care and life-saving research during the HIV/AIDS epidemic, heart transplants and cardiovascular care and research, cancer research, fighting complex immunological challenges, and genomic sequencing .
Within these flagships our Precinct delivers nationally and internationally recognised ‘best in class’ clinical outcomes, research impact and education. The essential foundation to our work is equity in health and research
