Our Precinct is on the ancestral land of the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation.
We acknowledge the many different traditional countries and language groups of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Peoples that work and visit us here.
We also acknowledge that our partnerships and engagements happen across many different lands.
Our flagship areas of shared strength and focus are Heart Health, Immunodeficiencies (acquired and innate) and cancer, all underpinned by a commitment to equity in health and research. Our successes in these areas are driven by our partnerships.
The St Vincent’s Sydney Health Innovation Precinct shows how real-world change is driven by effective collaborations.
We strive for the best patient outcomes by bringing together innovative healthcare facilities and multidisciplinary centres. We care not just for those in our local catchment, but for patients around the state and the country through our areas of excellence, including for those needing heart transplants or with rare immunological disorders. And as we have always done, we care for members of society with complex needs and who can find engaging with traditional health care systems challenging.
Our partners in healthcare innovation bring improved treatments to patients across Australia.
Our university partners are critical members of the Precinct. With them we are growing our healthcare workforce and the next generation of medical researchers. We have hundreds of shared appointments, so many of our doctors, nurses, and allied health workers are also engaged in research – leading to excellence in patient care.
From understanding how cancer cells grow in the lab to developing new ways to nurse stroke patients – being part of such an active Precinct means our researchers and healthcare working are making a difference.
Through collaborations with leading universities, we grow, train and foster new talent, and advance medical research.
Since 1857 we have continuously supported and cared for our local and wider community, including marginalised people from all backgrounds.
Our philanthropic supporters are absolutely critical in enabling us to conduct groundbreaking medical research, from lab-based studies to clinical trials.
Generous philanthropic donations to our precinct partners enables us to deliver medical research breakthroughs and to provide care and support to the people who need it most.
Our research partners are the beating heart of the Precinct. With two leading medical research institutes as our cornerstone partners, plus close connections with universities and specialist research organisations we work hard to ensure breakthroughs happen, and that they change lives for the better. Through these principles we have made real differences in many areas, including cancer, cardiology, diabetes, HIV, immunology, and stroke.
Our nationally and globally significant capabilities are only strengthened by our collaborative partners in medical research.
The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute is Australia’s only national cardiovascular research institute and was founded in 1994 in honour of legendary heart transplant surgeon, Dr Victor Chang AC.
The Institute is renowned for its cutting-edge medical research that improves the understanding, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
It is committed to improving health outcomes, positively impacting patient care, and saving lives and has more than 230 scientists, doctors, and staff working together at 23 laboratories across the country.
As a principal referral and teaching hospital, St Vincent’s houses several specialty units, including heart and lung transplantation, bone marrow transplantation, cardiology, cancer care, AIDS/HIV, respiratory medicine, mental health, and drug and alcohol services.
In addition, guided by the Mission of the founding Sisters of Charity, the Hospital is committed to prioritising care for vulnerable populations, providing fair and equitable care for all the communities they serve.
Since the opening of the first St Vincent’s Private Hospital Sydney in 1909, it has worked in partnership with specialist doctors to build a strong culture of excellence and compassion in healthcare. Today, it provides respectful, research-driven care to patients in the private system, treating some of the most vulnerable people in the Australian community with contemporary techniques and technology.
St Vincent’s Clinic is a multidisciplinary specialist clinic of excellence, providing a comprehensive range of investigative, diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients referred for healthcare. Combining both clinical research and community services, the Clinic serves people in need through compassionate and diverse services, held to high ethical standards and underpinned by evidence-based research and education.
