Our Precinct is on the ancestral land of the Gadigal and Bidjigal Peoples of the Eora Nation.

We acknowledge the many different traditional countries and language groups of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Peoples that work and visit us here.

We also acknowledge that our partnerships and engagements happen across many different lands.

CIRCA: Garvan leads a national collaboration investigating genetic causes of rare immune diseases

The CIRCA program (Clinical Immunogenomics Research Consortium Australasia), led by the Garvan Institute with support from St Vincent’s Hospital, brings together researchers and clinicians from across Australasia to tackle mysterious immune disorders in individual patients.

CIRCA has successfully obtained a genetic diagnosis for more than 40 patients, leading to treatments that would not otherwise have been considered and sharply reducing average time in hospital from ~65 days to less than 5 days.

In some cases, treatments indicated by CIRCA have successfully mitigated profound life-threatening conditions in young children.

CIRCA partners from NSW Health Innovation Precincts Children’s Hospital at Westmead, UNSW Randwick, Liverpool Hospital, SCH Randwick, RPAH, John Hunter Hospital Newcastle – and many national and international partners.

This is an example of effective inter-precinct collaboration.
